WOYWW - A Change of Pace

My creative energy is my life force, when it wains I'm left without much breath to take a breather.

Luckily years at fancy art school, and then years at job-job and various other 'live or die' gigs have taught me that sometimes a dip in creativity is flat out not an option. I've learned that for me, the best thing when I'm just not feeling it is to do something else. As long as I'm being creative, the dip will usually take care of itself.
This week I've been working on some new layouts, new texture maps and new life paths. Did you know we're staring down the barrel at 11 weeks 'til Christmas? I can't quite think about it with my full brain, because it's hard for me to think about snow. Who wants snow?! If you say you do I'm using my favorite modified GLEE phrase of all time. "Snow!?! KILL YOURSELF!"
Incidentally you're looking at barrettes I've been crocheting for one of my favorite fans, albeit one of my littlest.
I'm counting down the holidays by being more resourceful and more Little Woman-like' than I've had the leisure to do as of late. Nicest side effect, other than having some cutesy barrettes ready to wrap, is that I'm itching to get back to my other gigs, the ones that require my 2D skills ;)
What do you do to get back your 'creative mojo' when you feel it packing for holiday?

Don't forget to check out Julia's magical Stamping Ground, where you can share what's on your workdesk too!

P.S. It's voting time for Amber Ink's INK-redible challenge! Please vote for your favorite, and don't forget to participate when we go for it again on the 20th!

Thanks for the photos of your crocheted work! I wish I could do that. I can crochet endless rows.... Your countdown to Christmas freaked me out! We're counting down to Halloween in this house (18 days only).

You know I've been avoiding the C word, but when you put it in perspective, I must admit I'm starting to think I'd better follow suit and pull myself out of my slump. You may have motivated me more than you know with this eye-opening post. Your love might be 2-D right now, but those barrettes are cute as anything. As for getting my mojo back, I usually clean and organize, but even that didn't help this time! Happy WOYWW from #2.

I rearrange my work area when I run out of inspiration. You note I rearrange...not clean, maybe that's where I'm going wrong!

I have to get started on Christmas soon. I really do. Normally when my Mojo runs off, I start a tag. if that fails, I just leave it a few days.

I never have that feeling because my two full time wage earning jobs do not require 2 or 3d art skills - just a whole bag of people skills and various qualifications (none art)so every stolen aart moment is precious and I haveyet to have doen all the ideas that are buzzing in my head, I'd love to be in a position that I might - because I have the time to do so - run out of inspiration....love your barettes

Great post, A - love the barrettes! Like you, I need to be creative in the exhausted times - I cook, and have slowly returned to making some clothes. But it remains a 'paper thing' for me truly - and I find if I put myself in a positin where I cannot get to do it, I want, really badly!!

I am loving your ickle crochet items especially the sun, its adorable :) Happy woyww :)

Your crochets are beautiful. Its years since I have done any crochet, so I guess getting your mojo back comes to me by reading what other people are doing.

Love the crochet work....very pretty.
When I lose my creativity, I often go shopping or do some gardening then usually come back, ready to create.
Have a great day

Love the crocheting, so pretty, i love crocheting, so relaxing.

When my creative mojo abandons me, I usually decide that's the right time to have a tidy up of my craft stash. I usually discover something super pretty that i've forgotten about, and it gets my mojo flowing again. If that doesn't work, I go to sleep, I get some of my best ideas when i'm drifting off to sleep.

Have a great day

Absolutely gorgeous crocheting - plenty of mojo there. I like to just to and look at beautiful things to get new inspiration - fabrics, shop windows, books, colour schemes. Just a nice day out in a new town where you can meander through little shops - or a virtual trip to other blogs about other art forms.... Just let it come to you.

have a good week.

love the barretts, they are so cute. Mojo is a hard thing to pin down. I've had to make myself a mojo board so that I can stick up the ideas that I haven't got time to do for when my mojo leaves for a holiday. Happy WOYWW, love Elliefantasy xx

Great crochet! I like to try something new or different to stir up the old mojo. Making sock dolls this week!!!

Amber, those are adorable!!! awesome job crocheting them! Is there anything you can't do, girl? These would make a cute stamp set!

been feeling the lack of mojo too. you know I'm a weirdo about my space being neat so sometimes I just find cleaning up and reorganizing my supplies helps kindle my creativity.

Still avoiding C*******s! Didn't know barettes existed until I saw your lovely ones. I bet it's what we call bobbles or hair slides. Thanks for sharing your craft and your desk

We call barettes, hair slides or hair clips in the UK. I learned a bit of a new language when we lived in Virginia in the 70's. I can now speak American and Brit!
Whatever you call them... they're fabulous!

Your crochet work is so cute - and practical too! I tend to have a good tidy up in the scrap room and find all the stuff I have shoved into a box - it tends to motivate me to use it!

Paula Gale said...

cute and very clever crochet work... something i'd love to do - I do like to finger knit though (only kidding)... I can knit scarves in a straight line knit stitch only (not kidding) :O)

You're mojo will come back when you're somewhere you can't gget to your craft desk, like, at the supermarket or somewhere equally unexpected...

11 weeks-ahhh don't want to know that and NO thanks, no snow. Hot sunshine is much better!!
I love your thoughts on creativity and mojo, sounds perfect.
Your crochet is gorgeous.

What stunning hair slides....my daughter loves to wear things like that and she is always pestering me to make her things. I have made her a few hairslides but nothing nearly as beautiful as yours. It is super to find someone else who loves to crochet. I dabble with it here and there but struggle to find enough time to finish the things I start. Thanks so much for sharing your craft with me. You are welcome to pop over and have a peek at what I have been up to if you like.
Love

To get my mojo back I tend to start bloghopping, or listening to some music, or even sometimes turn on Create & Craft (thinking, I can do that better, arrogant I know, but it works). Love the barettes!
